Ministry of Education Selects 265 Outstanding Academic Books... Distributed to University Libraries Nationwide
230 million KRW worth of books scheduled for distribution in the second half of the year
[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] The Ministry of Education and the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Korea announced on the 21st that they have selected 265 outstanding academic books for 2021.
The Ministry of Education has been conducting a project to select outstanding academic books to distribute excellent academic books in basic disciplines to universities, share and spread excellent research achievements, and activate research and writing activities in basic academic fields.
This year, 363 publishers applied with a total of 3,287 academic books first published between March of last year and February of this year. Among them, the selected books include 67 in humanities, 95 in social sciences, 35 in Korean studies, and 68 in natural sciences, totaling 265 titles.
A review committee composed of 104 members of the National Academy of Sciences and experts in each field selected the outstanding books through a multi-stage evaluation. They comprehensively evaluated the expertise, originality, and academic contribution of the content.
The Academy surveyed university demand and will distribute books worth a total of 2.34 billion KRW to university libraries in the second half of the year.
