Middle School Students and Parents' 'Birthday Party' Leads to Group Infection... Parents Fined

Gwangmyeong City in Gyeonggi Province announced that on the 10th, six middle school students and one parent, a total of seven people who held a birthday party at a house in Gwangmyeong, tested positive for COVID-19.
The city announced on the 20th that it plans to impose fines on the parent who violated the administrative order banning private gatherings of five or more people.
However, all six middle school students are minors under the age of 14 and are not subject to fines.
The city emphasized the importance of raising awareness among students about quarantine rules and requested cooperation from local elementary, middle, and high schools regarding violation cases and education.
According to the Infectious Disease Prevention and Control Act, individuals who violate quarantine rules are fined 100,000 KRW per person. Depending on the severity, such as false statements, there may be criminal charges and claims for quarantine costs incurred from treatment and testing fees due to quarantine rule violations.
A city official emphasized, "Each citizen must recognize themselves as a subject of quarantine, and especially among close acquaintances, active participation is needed to immediately correct any violations of quarantine rules."

Meanwhile, the Gwangmyeong City Public Health Center has imposed a total of 77 fines so far for violations of the administrative order banning private gatherings of five or more people at detached houses and other locations. Fines are also being imposed by relevant departments for violations of quarantine rules at restaurants, academies, and other places.
