Gwangju Buk-gu Wins 'Talent Development Award' at Korea Local Autonomy Management Awards

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yukbong] On the 20th, Buk-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (District Mayor Moon In) announced that it received the Talent Development Award at the ‘26th Korea Local Autonomy Management Awards’ hosted by the Korea Public Autonomy Research Institute.

The Korea Local Autonomy Management Awards, now in its 26th year, are given to local governments that have realized regional development and administrative service innovation.

Buk-gu was the only district selected in the region and won the award for two consecutive years following last year’s Social Economy Award.

Last year, it was evaluated for achieving administrative innovation by operating a transparent and fair personnel system and spreading an honest organizational culture.

First, to ensure fairness in the personnel system, a Personnel Innovation TF was formed and operated, implementing highly effective policies such as ▲publishing personnel newsletters ▲consideration for female public officials ▲creating a lively workplace culture ▲and an educational platform called Innovation Learning Center.

Additionally, through ▲visiting integrity meetings ▲non-face-to-face integrity learning systems ▲citizen auditors ▲and the Citizens’ Grievance Committee, it strengthened the innovation capabilities of public officials and contributed to improving residents’ satisfaction with administrative services.

Thanks to these efforts, last year it received the Minister of the Interior and Safety Award at the ‘Local Personnel Innovation Competition,’ the highest grade in the ‘2020 Civil Service Evaluation’ hosted by the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission, and the highest Grade 1 in the ‘2020 Public Institution Corruption Prevention Evaluation.’

District Mayor Moon In of Buk-gu said, “Strengthening the capabilities of public officials is the foundation of administrative services,” and added, “We will continue to do our best to improve residents’ welfare based on resident-centered and innovative administration.”
