Hyundai Motor, Premium SUV 'Alcazar' Reaches 11,000 Reservations in India Within One Month of Launch
[Asia Economy Reporter Ki-min Lee] Hyundai Motor's premium sport utility vehicle (SUV) Alcazar, launched in India, has gained popularity by surpassing 11,000 reservations within one month of its release.
Hyundai Motor India stated on the 20th, "Since Alcazar was launched on the 16th of last month, it has received 11,000 reservations and sold more than 5,600 units," adding, "30% of the reservations are for the top-tier trim."
Hyundai Motor said, "Alcazar's various features and premium package have received overwhelming responses," and "By adding 6- and 7-seater models to the lineup, we are leading the Indian SUV market."
Hyundai is increasing its market share in the luxury SUV segment through the Alcazar 6- and 7-seater models and premium trims. Since family-oriented vehicle use is common in India, equipping third-row seats to enhance rear-seat comfort compared to competing models appears to have received a positive response in the market.
Recently, Hyundai has been achieving high sales in India. Hyundai began mass production at its Chennai plant in India in 1998 and reached a cumulative production record of 10 million units in India on the 30th of last month. The 10 millionth vehicle produced was the Alcazar.
Additionally, Hyundai Motor India sold 54,474 units last month, a 103.1% increase compared to the same month last year (26,820 units). Sales in the Indian market were 40,496 units, and export sales were 13,978 units.
