#Song, head of the Beauty Industry Research Institute at the Korea Beauty Association Central Committee, used to be criticized for 'work not going smoothly' because customers' hair was not properly washed. By applying the National Competency Standards (NCS) system and breaking down the competency units, 'shampooing' was subdivided into a total of 51 steps. With the introduction of NCS, job standards were established in the beauty industry. Once proper training manuals were prepared, suspicions about lacking capabilities no longer arose.
#According to Manager Noh of Geoje Jeil Marine, the 'engineer' job, which involves installing and inspecting various equipment such as valves inside the engine room, is essential in the shipbuilding industry. Although the engineer job is divided into two fields, uniform training had been conducted, causing some workers to have to listen to the same content repeatedly. After adopting NCS, training by job and competency level became possible. Thanks to this, they were able to respond appropriately to client complaints and accidents and endure the industry's prolonged recession.
#Seoulland, which attracts 2 million visitors annually, faced a high turnover rate due to the intense workload. Among the 280 total employees, 120 worked in the operations team, where the average tenure was only one year. After analyzing jobs such as amusement facility operation management, marketing planning, and group sales through NCS corporate utilization consulting, the situation changed dramatically. The monthly turnover rate dropped from 9.7% to 4%. Conducting situational interviews to assess applicants' aptitude, job competency, and service provision ability based on NCS proved highly effective.
The Ministry of Employment and Labor and the Human Resources Development Service of Korea announced on the 21st that they published a collection of excellent case studies showcasing the results of NCS adoption by 13 organizations including companies, public institutions, specialized high schools, and training institutions. NCS is a system standardized by the government that defines the competencies required to perform jobs in industrial fields.
According to the Ministry of Employment and Labor, institutions utilizing NCS achieved results such as ▲reduced turnover rates and decreased retraining costs for new employees ▲increased efficiency in personnel management ▲improved job competencies and enhanced corporate competitiveness ▲discovery of talented individuals through blind recruitment.
Song Hongseok, Director of the Vocational Competency Policy Bureau at the Ministry of Employment and Labor, said, "The most important resource in the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution is people, and investing in people is the top priority. We will share excellent cases and know-how so that NCS can play a key role in developing people in the workplace and encourage more companies to participate."
