Gochang-gun Implements 'Ice Pack Compensation Exchange Program'

[Gochang=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Jaegil] Jeonbuk Gochang-gun (Governor Yu Gisang) announced on the 20th that it has been conducting the ‘Ice Pack Reward Exchange Project’ since March to increase the collection rate of recyclable items (ice packs).

With the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic continuing since last year, non-face-to-face consumption such as online product purchases and fresh food delivery has increased, causing a surge in ice pack usage.

Accordingly, the county started the project to exchange ice packs for volume-based waste bags due to growing concerns about environmental pollution and the need to reuse ice packs.

The ice pack reward exchange is operated alongside existing reward exchange projects for waste batteries, paper packs, and others.

If you clean and dry the surface of the ice packs and bring them to the town or township office, you can exchange 5 ice packs for one volume-based waste bag (10L).

The ice packs collected this time are gel-type ice packs made of superabsorbent resin. Ice packs filled with water should have their bags torn open to discard the water, and the bags should be separated and disposed of as recyclable plastic.

A county official said, “To save resources through ice pack reuse and to respond to environmental issues caused by household waste, raising residents’ awareness and steady participation are most important.”
