President Moon's Approval Rating Hits 9-Month High... Surges to 45.5% [Realmeter]

[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Ju-yeon] A public opinion poll revealed that President Moon Jae-in's approval rating for his administration reached its highest point in nine months. In party support, the Democratic Party of Korea surpassed the People Power Party for the first time in 20 weeks.
On the 19th, Realmeter conducted a survey commissioned by YTN from the 12th to the 16th, targeting 2,519 voters aged 18 and older nationwide (sampling error ±2.0 percentage points at a 95% confidence level). The results showed that in the second week of July, President Moon's positive evaluation of his administration was 45.5% (27.6% strongly approve, 17.9% somewhat approve). This is an increase of 4.4 percentage points compared to the previous week and marks the highest rating since the third week of October last year, when it was 45.6%.
Negative evaluations fell by 3.7 percentage points from the previous survey to 51.2% (36.5% strongly disapprove, 14.6% somewhat disapprove), narrowing the gap between positive and negative evaluations to 5.7 percentage points. The 'Don't know/No response' category decreased by 0.7 percentage points to 3.3%.
By region, positive evaluations increased by 6.3 percentage points in Daejeon, Sejong, and Chungcheong, by 5.8 percentage points in Daegu and Gyeongbuk, and by 5.0 percentage points in Seoul, driving the rise in approval ratings.
By age group, positive evaluations were dominant in all age groups except those in their 30s. Notably, the 20s age group rose by 7.2 percentage points and those aged 70 and above by 6.5 percentage points. The 40s, considered a solid support base, increased by 4.8 percentage points from the previous week, pushing their approval rating from 57.2% to 62.0%, surpassing 60%. In contrast, the 30s age group declined by 1.8 percentage points from 53.4% to 51.6%.
Along with President Moon's rising approval, party support rates also reversed. The Democratic Party of Korea rose in tandem with the president's approval rating and overtook the People Power Party.
The Democratic Party's support rate increased by 3.8 percentage points from the previous week to 36.7%. This is the highest since the first week of September last year (37.8%) and marks the first time in 20 weeks that it has led the People Power Party within the margin of error. The People Power Party recorded its lowest support since the second week of March this year (32.4%), dropping 2.2 percentage points from the previous week to 34.9%.
