Chosun University Hosts 'Reading Classics and Writing Reviews' Award Ceremony
Kim Kyung-ji, Law Student, Wins Top Award... Review of 'What Is Justice?'
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Chosun University held an award ceremony for a student writing contest.
The Writing Center of the College of Basic Education at Chosun University announced on the 16th that it held the '2021 Academic Year Classic Book Reading and Review Writing Contest Award Ceremony.'
A total of 270 participants entered the contest, with 31 winners awarded at the ceremony, including 1 Grand Prize winner, 10 Excellence Award winners, and 20 Encouragement Award winners.
For this contest, participants were asked to select and write about one of 13 recommended classic books for 'Classic Book Reading,' including The Day a Pig Fell into Philosophy, Mokminsimseo, Cosmos, Wide and Shallow Knowledge for Intellectual Conversation 1, Silent Spring, What is Justice?, Pride and Prejudice, The Prince, Oedipus Rex, The Analects, The Politics of Sexuality Vol. 1 & 2, Lectures (My Way of Reading Eastern Classics), and May Song of the Hotelier - 5.18 Seen from Gwangju Tourist Hotel. A total of 270 people participated in the contest.
The judging panel evaluated the entries based on their objective assessment of the book's content and value as a review explaining the book to readers, as well as whether the evaluation was supported by objective data regarding the book's status.
The Grand Prize was awarded to Kim Kyungjin, a law student, who wrote a review on Michael Sandel's What is Justice? The review was highly praised for its persuasive statements and elegant writing style. However, it was also noted that the review lacked sufficient objectivity when assessing the book's status.
