Now in its third year, the Korea Cultural Value Awards were established in 2019 to enhance Korea’s cultural value by discovering and promoting excellent cultural policies through evaluating local government heads’ cultural pledges, policy development, and implementation.
This year’s evaluation targeted the cultural policy projects of the 7th local government heads from 17 metropolitan and 226 basic local governments nationwide. The selection was made through a two-stage process: first, expert review in relevant fields on three categories and nine indicators including cultural budget, policy participation, cultural value creation, and goal achievement; second, evaluation committee review.
Jangheung-gun has made various efforts to build high-quality cultural infrastructure and revitalize local culture.
In particular, Jangheung-gun received high marks for solidly promoting differentiated cultural policy projects such as the public art project ‘Embracing the Yeyang River,’ the operation of the ‘Year of Visiting Haedongsa Temple in Jeongnamjin Jangheung,’ the creation of a cultural and artistic complex space utilizing abandoned industrial facilities, and the development project of historical and cultural resources commemorating the 110th anniversary of independence activist Ahn Jung-geun.
