Chairman Lee Chi-woo: "Revise the Basic Property Amount Causing Reverse Discrimination Against Special City Citizens"
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Saeyan] Chairman Lee Chi-woo of Changwon City Council and the councils of four special cities nationwide, including Suwon, Yongin, and Goyang, have started demonstrations such as one-person protests from the 14th to secure the rights and interests of special cities.
They have been demanding that the basic property deduction standard for social welfare benefits be raised from the current small and medium-sized city standard to the large city standard.
Meanwhile, on the same day, the Ministry of Health and Welfare held a subcommittee meeting of the Central Livelihood Security Committee to decide whether to put on the agenda the application of the large city standard to special cities in calculating the basic property amount.
Accordingly, the chairpersons and mayors of the four special cities gathered in front of the Ministry of Health and Welfare in the morning, issued a joint statement, and all participants began a relay one-person protest, each taking turns for 15 minutes.
After finishing the one-person protest, Chairman Lee Chi-woo emphasized, "Welfare should be applied justly and fairly based on reasonable standards that all citizens can agree on, and equal benefits should be enjoyed regardless of place of residence."
