[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyun-joo] Lee Jae-myung, the leading presidential candidate from the Democratic Party of Korea and Governor of Gyeonggi Province, proposed a public verification of campaign promises, saying to other candidates within the party, "Since all of us are former elected officials, let's verify together with the public what promises were made when running for office and how well they were kept."
On the 13th, Lee said on Facebook, "Whether promises will be kept can only be known by looking at one's past."
Lee stated, "Politics is about fulfilling promises made to the people. Politicians must keep their promises and should not make promises they cannot keep," adding, "However, our politics has long been plagued by 'promise-breaking politics' and 'lying politics,' causing political trust to collapse a long time ago."
