Counterfeit Expert Group Produces and Distributes 'Finance and Counterfeit Education' Videos for Youth
Jointly Produced and Supported by the Korea Federation of Banks, National Intelligence Service, and Bank of Korea
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Sun-mi] A counterfeit currency expert group is producing and distributing educational videos on 'Finance and Counterfeit Currency Education' targeted at teenagers.
On the 13th, the Bank of Korea, the Korea Federation of Banks, and the National Intelligence Service announced that the counterfeit currency expert group has produced 'Finance and Counterfeit Currency Education' videos to strengthen activities preventing the circulation of counterfeit currency. With the cooperation of the Ministry of Education, these videos are scheduled to be actively used as educational materials primarily in vocational high schools nationwide starting in July.
The counterfeit currency expert group was established in September 2018 by gathering banking experts (from Shinhan, Woori, Hana, Industrial, and Kookmin banks) who have worked in counterfeit-related tasks for over five years, organized by the Korea Federation of Banks and the National Intelligence Service. In 2020, the issuing bank, the Bank of Korea, joined the group, which has since been actively conducting activities to prevent counterfeit currency damage.
The educational videos consist of three parts: ▲Culture and value learned through currency ▲Currency values of various countries around the world ▲Methods to identify counterfeit bills and appropriate actions, all produced to suit the perspective of teenagers.
Additionally, starting in August, the counterfeit currency expert group plans to release three talk-show style videos featuring episodes and coping methods related to counterfeit currency, starring YoYoMi, a singer and YouTuber from 'Miss Trot,' idol singer Seo Eun-kwang, and Mexican broadcaster Cristian Burgos. They are also preparing various content for the second half of the year, including on-site visits to the Bank of Korea Currency Museum and counterfeit currency response centers.

A representative from the National Intelligence Service's International Crime Information Center explained, “Although the number of counterfeit currency detections has significantly decreased this year due to COVID-19, with the Tokyo Olympics taking place in July and ongoing discussions about travel bubbles, there is an expectation of increased public harm due to the easing of international travel restrictions, so caution is necessary.”
