[Asia Economy Reporter Donghyun Choi] The group BTS's song "Butter" has set a historic record by topping the US Billboard "Hot 100" chart for 7 consecutive weeks.
On the 12th (local time), Billboard announced on its official website that BTS's "Butter," released on May 21, topped the latest chart (dated July 17) of the "Hot 100" for 7 consecutive weeks. "Butter" also maintained the number one position on the "Digital Song Sales" chart for 7 consecutive weeks since its debut.
According to MRC data cited by Billboard, "Butter" recorded 29.1 million radio audience impressions in the weekly tally ending on the 8th. This figure represents a 6% increase compared to the previous week.
"Butter" ranked 10th on the "Pop Airplay" chart. BTS, who reached 5th place on the "Pop Airplay" chart last December with "Dynamite," also set a record as the first Korean artist to have more than two songs in the top 10 of the "Pop Airplay" chart. The "Pop Airplay" chart ranks the top 40 pop songs based on the weekly number of plays on approximately 160 major radio stations across the United States.
"Butter" debuted at number one on the "Hot 100" chart dated June 5 and has maintained the top spot for 7 weeks, marking another milestone in popular music history. This is BTS's 12th time topping the "Hot 100." Starting with "Dynamite" (3 times), the remix version of "Savage Love" featuring BTS (1 time), the title track "Life Goes On" from the album "BE" (1 time), and "Butter" (7 times), BTS has achieved remarkable records in less than a year.
