View original image[Asia Economy Reporter No Woo-rae] It was a successful 'major rehearsal' for world number 1 Jon Rahm (Spain).
On the 12th (Korean time), at the Renaissance Golf Club in North Berwick, Scotland (par 71, 7,293 yards), Rahm added 3 under par on the final day of the European Tour's 'Rolex Series' Scottish Open (total prize money $8 million) to finish 7th, two strokes behind, at 16 under par 268. He participated in this tournament to adapt to the local climate and turf ahead of the season's final major, The Open Championship, held on the 15th at Royal St George's Golf Club in Sandwich, England.
Rahm recorded 4 birdies and 1 bogey. Although he started shakily with a bogey on the 1st hole (par 4), he changed the momentum with 'stepping stone birdies' on the 5th and 7th holes. He then added consecutive birdies on the 9th and 10th holes, closing the gap to the leader by two strokes and joining the race for the title. However, it was disappointing that he could not reduce strokes on the remaining 8 holes. His impressive long drives averaged 314.5 yards, and his 'needle-like iron shots' hit the green 88.9% of the time. He averaged 1.8 putts per hole.
