25 New COVID-19 Cases in Gyeongnam Amid Rising Infections... Death of an Octogenarian
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Ju Cheol-in] As the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) rapidly spreads mainly in the metropolitan area, infection cases are also surging in Gyeongnam.
Gyeongsangnam-do announced on the 10th that 25 new COVID-19 cases were confirmed in the province after 5 p.m. on the 9th.
Except for one case of overseas entry, all are local infections. By region, there are 7 cases each in Changwon and Gimhae, 5 in Geoje, 3 in Yangsan, and 1 each in Tongyeong, Sacheon, and Geochang.
Among the local infections excluding overseas entry, 15 cases were due to contact with confirmed patients within the province, and 2 cases were due to contact with confirmed patients from other regions. The infection route is unclear for the remaining 7 cases.
One person in their 80s who died at home on this day tested positive for COVID-19 shortly before death.
Accordingly, the number of COVID-19 related deaths in the Gyeongnam area has increased to 19. The cumulative confirmed cases in the province stand at 5,385 (210 hospitalized, 5,156 discharged, 19 deceased).
The quarantine authorities urged, “In relation to the increasing number of confirmed cases in their 20s and 30s in Gyeongnam who visited entertainment, nightlife, and Danranju bars in Busan and entertainment establishments in Gimhae, please refrain from visiting bars and comply with quarantine guidelines.”

They also stated, “We will strengthen proactive testing for managers and workers of entertainment facilities in the affected areas and respond with a zero-tolerance policy toward establishments violating quarantine rules.”
