Incheon Cheongna Medical Town Project Operator Bid, Seoul Asan Hospital Consortium Scores Highest
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyesook] In the evaluation of the public bid for the Incheon Cheongna Medical Complex Town project, the Seoul Asan Medical Center consortium received the highest score and is expected to be selected as the preferred negotiation candidate.
According to the Incheon Free Economic Zone Authority on the 9th, among the five hospital consortia that participated in the bid, the consortium of Seoul Asan Medical Center, KT&G, and Hana Bank received the highest score.
The Cheongna Medical Complex Town project proposal evaluation committee conducted a preliminary evaluation of the proposals, presentations and Q&A sessions by the bidders, and a comprehensive evaluation.
The Incheon Free Economic Zone Authority plans to select and announce the Seoul Asan Medical Center consortium as the preferred negotiation candidate next week, proceed with negotiations for up to 150 days, and sign the project agreement within this year.
In addition to the Seoul Asan Medical Center consortium, the bidders included the Cha Medical Group and Meritz Fire & Marine Insurance consortium, Inha University International Hospital consortium, Soonchunhyang University Bucheon Hospital and Korea Investment & Securities consortium, and Semyung Christian Hospital and Hanseong Foundation consortium, making a total of five domestic hospital consortia.
The Cheongna Medical Complex Town will be developed on a 261,635㎡ site in Cheongna-dong 1, Seo-gu, Incheon, a free economic zone, and will include a general hospital with more than 500 beds, medical bio-related industry-academia-research facilities, office facilities, and retail facilities. The general hospital is planned to open in two phases: more than 300 beds in the first phase and more than 500 beds in the second phase.
Considering its proximity to Incheon International Airport, the Incheon Free Economic Zone Authority aims to focus on fostering the high value-added medical tourism industry and develop the complex into one of Asia’s top medical complex towns, comparable to Singapore Biopolis and Dubai Healthcare City.
Originally, the Incheon Free Economic Zone Authority signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with Cha Medical Group to promote the Cheongna Medical Complex Town, but in April 2019, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy’s Free Economic Zone Committee reviewed and resolved to open a public bid for the project, leading to the current bidding process.
