[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Yongsan-gu (Mayor Seongjanghyun) will deliver Samgyetang (retort pouch) to 4,113 low-income elderly residents in the area to celebrate Chobok.
The event is hosted by the Senior Welfare Support Associations of 16 neighborhoods.
In addition to Samgyetang, items such as rice, fruit, honey, pest repellent devices, rayon pajamas, summer blankets, cool mats, toothpaste, and pain relief patches will be distributed according to the circumstances of each neighborhood.
The neighborhood with the largest number of recipients is Hangangno-dong (500 people), and the smallest is Ichon 2-dong (110 people).
A district official said, “Each neighborhood’s Senior Welfare Support Association held meetings to decide on the items to be distributed,” adding, “Considering the COVID-19 situation, we will ensure that the items are delivered in a mostly non-face-to-face manner.”
Mayor Seongjanghyun will also participate in the Samgyetang distribution in Huam-dong on the 12th.
The Senior Welfare Support Association is a private organization working to improve the welfare of local elderly residents, conducting district-supported projects such as discovering and supporting low-income elderly in welfare blind spots, senior citizen banquets, providing holiday gifts to elderly welfare facilities, and supplying rice to senior centers.

Seongjanghyun, Mayor of Yongsan-gu, said, “We have held senior citizen banquets every year with the Senior Welfare Support Association, but due to COVID-19, circumstances have not been favorable,” adding, “Like last year, we will visit elderly living alone and low-income seniors to share food and ease their loneliness.”
