Namwon-si Selected for the '2022 Smart Sewerage Project'
[Namwon=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Jeong Young-gwon] Namwon City, Jeonbuk Province (Mayor Lee Hwan-joo) announced on the 8th that it was recently selected for the '2022 Smart Sewerage Project' and secured 2.037 billion KRW of national funding out of a total project cost of 4.074 billion KRW.
As one of the core tasks for establishing a 'clean and safe water management system' under the Korean Green New Deal, the Namwon Sewage Treatment Plant was selected as one of the seven project sites for next year’s 'Smart Sewerage Project' (Busan, Daegu, Guri, Pyeongtaek, Changwon, Jeongeup, Namwon), enabling the smartization of the Namwon Sewage Treatment Plant starting next year.
To secure the selection of the Namwon Sewage Treatment Plant for the Smart Sewerage Project, the city repeatedly visited the Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Economy and Finance, and Jeonbuk Province since last year to emphasize the project's feasibility and necessity, ultimately achieving the selection.
This project introduces real-time monitoring and remote control/management using the latest information and communication technologies throughout the sewage treatment process to establish a smart management system, creating a safe and clean water environment and improving citizens' health and environmental conditions.
Constructed and operating since 1995, the Namwon Sewage Treatment Plant processes 50,000 tons per day of sewage generated in the city, leachate from landfills, and fecal matter, operating year-round without interruption.
A city official stated, "We expect stable water quality management to be possible with this project selection," adding, "In step with the changing times, the city will make every effort to utilize smart technologies in various ways to continuously and stably treat sewage generated within the jurisdiction."
