[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Gwan-ju] The National Police Agency's National Investigation Headquarters (NIH) has launched a direct investigation after signs of personal information leakage, including patient data, due to hacking were confirmed at Seoul National University Hospital.
An NIH official stated on the 8th, "Considering that this is the top national hospital handling sensitive information, and to identify the intrusion path and share and disseminate investigation techniques in the future, we decided to respond directly." The investigation will be handled by the Cyber Terror Investigation Unit within the NIH Cyber Investigation Bureau.
Seoul National University Hospital announced on its website on the 6th of this month, "Regrettably, a cyberattack in the form of hacking through malware infection was confirmed between June 5 and 11," adding, "There are signs suspected of leakage of files containing some personal information held by the hospital."

The hospital also stated, "We have reported this to the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Health and Welfare, Personal Information Protection Commission, and the police," and added, "Since the personal information that may have been leaked varies by individual, we have contacted each person individually via the mobile phone numbers registered with the hospital." No direct damage related to this hacking incident has been confirmed yet.
