First Lady of Haiti Shot During Attack on President, Urgently Airlifted to US for Treatment
[Asia Economy Reporter Kwon Jae-hee] Martine Mo?se (47), wife of Haitian President Jovenel Mo?se (53), who was killed by assailants, was urgently transferred to Florida, USA on the afternoon of the 7th (local time) for treatment of gunshot wounds.
According to CNN's report on the same day, Mrs. Mo?se was also seriously wounded by gunfire during the attack on her husband in the early morning. The Haitian Embassy in the United States explained, "Although Mrs. Mo?se was seriously injured, her condition is stable."
Mrs. Mo?se was transferred to the Ryder Trauma Center at Miami Jackson Memorial Hospital.
On the same day, around 3:30 p.m., Mrs. Mo?se arrived at Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport in Florida by air ambulance and was immediately transported to the hospital by ambulance under police escort.
Earlier, the political media outlet Politico reported that the U.S. Department of State supported Mrs. Mo?se to receive treatment in the United States.
Mrs. Mo?se was born in 1974 in Port-au-Prince, the capital of Haiti, and majored in interpretation studies at university.
She married Jovenel Mo?se, her childhood sweetheart, in 1996.
After her husband became president in 2017, she engaged in activities for children and paid attention to women's rights, gender issues, and the transmission of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) through breastfeeding.
