Jeonnam Fire Department, Full Effort Response for 'Resident Safety' Amid Heavy Rain Warning
512 Firefighting Activities on May 5-6... 20 Rescued, 498 Safety Measures Taken
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] The Jeonnam Fire Headquarters (Chief Ma Jaeyoon) strengthened its response system and made every effort to prevent damage to residents as a heavy rain warning was issued in the Jeonnam area.
According to Jeonnam Fire on the 6th, an emergency response work system for heavy rain was activated from the 5th, deploying a total of 1,435 personnel and 2,282 pieces of equipment to respond to disasters.
Over two days, a total of 2,683 reports were received, with 512 firefighting activities conducted, rescuing 20 people and taking safety measures in 498 cases.
By region, Jindo recorded 128 cases, Haenam 103 cases, Jangheung 52 cases, and Gangjin 46 cases in order.
The Fire Headquarters and each fire station reinforced situation personnel and on-site response teams to immediately respond to disasters, strengthening patrols in areas at risk of damage and enhancing the overall response posture.
At around 6 a.m. that day, a landslide occurred on the mountain behind the Tanchi Village Hall in Jinsang-myeon, Gwangyang-si, Jeonnam, burying a total of four buildings including houses and warehouses. Rescue operations were carried out with 313 personnel and 31 pieces of equipment deployed.
At around 10:30 a.m. in Mongtan-myeon, Muan-gun, a livestock shed was flooded, and drainage work was carried out using underwater pumps. In total, 189 drainage support cases and safety measures related to heavy rain damage were taken across the Jeonnam area.
Also, in the afternoon, two residents isolated due to road flooding in Sopo-ri, Jisan-myeon, Jindo-gun were rescued by rubber boat, and a citizen trapped in a valley near Cheongwansan in Jangheung was rescued using a rope and evacuated to a safe area.
