The Cannes International Film Festival will operate a film market in five cities worldwide, including Seoul. Hamill Pictures, the organizer in Seoul, announced on the 5th that the Cannes International Film Festival will hold 'Cannes in the City,' a film market screening event in Asian and Central American cities, considering the pandemic situation. The film market is a venue where representatives from film importers, distributors, and content streaming platforms attend to watch new films and select releases and screenings. The 2019 Palme d'Or winner, Parasite, was sold to 192 countries at that year's film market.

'Cannes in the City' will be held from the 6th to the 17th during the festival period in Seoul, Beijing, Melbourne, Mexico City, and Tokyo. It will screen thirty films from major sections such as the competition category and Un Certain Regard. An online film market will also be held during the same period. At 'Cannes in the City-Seoul,' held at Art Nine in Dongjak-gu, Seoul, nineteen films from ten categories will be screened. Thierry Fr?maux, the executive director of the Cannes Film Festival, said, "I am honored to present Cannes International Film Festival works to Korean filmmakers in theaters in Seoul," adding, "I hope many films will have the opportunity to be introduced in Korea."
