Topic Presenter: "Designate the Area Around the Airport as a Free Trade Zone"
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongguk Lee] Gyeongbuk Province will hold an aviation industry working group kickoff meeting and aviation industry promotion policy discussion at 11:30 a.m. on the 6th at Gumi Saemaeul Movement Theme Park.
The aviation industry working group is an expert group consisting of local universities, research institutes, and industries participating to foster the aviation industry. Going forward, it will play a pioneering role in discovering future growth engines linked to the new airport in the fields of air logistics, aircraft maintenance, and aircraft manufacturing.
Attending the kickoff meeting are 16 industry-academia-research experts including Professor Daesik Yoon of Yeungnam University, the working group chairman; Youngha Hwang, director of Korea Institute of Industrial Technology; Jeongho Lim, manager at Hanwha Systems; and Jinsu Noh, center director of Gumi Electronics and Information Technology Institute.
The policy discussion will be attended by Governor Cheolwoo Lee of Gyeongbuk Province, Mayor Seyong Jang of Gumi, and representatives of local aviation-related companies. They will listen to presentations on "Strategies for Promoting Air Logistics at Daegu-Gyeongbuk New Airport and Creating an Aviation Cluster" and exchange opinions on ways to revitalize the local economy.
The first presenter, Dongyeop Oh, CEO of TJ Partners, proposed through a pre-distributed press release that "infrastructure must be established to secure export competitiveness of companies by differentiating bonded warehouse costs and creating export-import bonded factory special zones," and suggested "designating the area around the airport as a free trade zone to provide customs exemption and tax reduction incentives to resident companies."
The second presenter, Vice President Deokhyeon Ahn of Yushin, emphasized that "the aviation cluster should be developed as a cutting-edge platform city that supports airport functions and connects Gyeongsangbuk-do’s industry and culture in all directions," adding "for this, a comprehensive and long-term development strategy that simultaneously establishes airport construction and regional development plans is necessary."
