Gyeonggi Special Judicial Police Detect 15 Cases of Illegal Fishing... 6 Cases Criminally Prosecuted
[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] The Gyeonggi-do Special Judicial Police Unit conducted joint crackdowns with city and county authorities on major inland water fishing grounds for a month starting April 26, uncovering 15 cases of illegal fishing activities.
The special judicial police filed criminal charges for six cases, including five instances of unauthorized fishing and one case of illegal sale of caught fish. Additionally, two cases of unreported fishing and seven cases of fishing using boats equipped with motor engines were fined.
Mr. A was caught fishing shrimp and snakehead fish with an unauthorized gill net (cone-shaped trap) at Tando Lake in Ansan. Company B was caught storing and selling illegally caught mandarin fish using electric batteries.
The illegally caught fish were released on-site to protect and replenish marine resources, and 136 illegal fishing gear and abandoned nets were reported to the provincial Department of Marine Fisheries for prompt removal.

This crackdown was conducted jointly by the provincial Department of Marine Fisheries, city and county authorities, and the Korea Rural Community Corporation, targeting major inland water fishing grounds in the province such as the Namhan and Bukhan Rivers, Tando Lake (Ansan), Namyang Lake (Hwaseong), and Pyeongtaek Lake.
