From the 6th, Kakao and PASS 'Simple Authentication' Introduced on Wetax
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] Starting from the 6th, when logging into Wetax to pay local taxes, users can easily verify their identity using private electronic signatures such as Kakao.
The Ministry of the Interior and Safety announced that with functional improvements, anyone who has obtained private electronic signatures like Kakao or PASS, as well as the joint certificate (formerly the public certificate), can use Wetax services such as local tax filing and payment through simple authentication. Unlike the existing joint certificate, simple authentication does not require annual renewal nor registration of the certificate on Wetax.
Additionally, while previously splitting payment of acquisition tax within the deadline (60 days from the acquisition date) into multiple payment methods was only possible by visiting the local government office, now an online service for installment payment of acquisition tax within the deadline is also available for non-face-to-face filing and payment.
Installment payment of acquisition tax within the deadline is possible up to 10 times if the amount to be filed and paid is 300,000 KRW or more. Taxpayers can either visit the local government office or select 'Application for Installment Payment of Acquisition Tax Within Deadline' from the Wetax additional services menu, then enter the number of installments and amounts. This is limited to payments made by the taxpayer themselves, but will be expanded to include third-party payments such as spouses and tax agents in the future.
Meanwhile, to celebrate this service upgrade, from July 16 to August 31, 100 people who log in to Wetax using simple authentication will be selected by lottery to receive a small amount of mobile Onnuri gift certificates.
