View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Hyun-joo] Former Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-yeol stated on the 4th, "Gwangbokhoe Chairman's absurd remark that 'the US military is an occupying force, while the Soviet army is a liberating force' has been continued by Lee Jae-myung, Governor of Gyeonggi Province," adding, "What is even more shocking is that neither the President nor the Blue House has made any statement regarding this."
On the same day, Yoon posted on his Facebook, "'The Republic of Korea was born as a collaboration between pro-Japanese forces and the US occupying forces' (Lee's claim) makes the entire nation doubt their ears," and questioned, "What are you aiming for now, and whom do you represent, as you control the government, distort history, and even eye the next administration?"
He asked, "Were the tens of thousands of US and UN soldiers who sacrificed their lives during the Korean War mobilized for an unjust war to guard occupied territories?" and "Did the numerous fallen and wounded South Korean soldiers and ordinary citizens fight for the benefit of pro-Japanese collaborators and the United States?"
On the 1st, Lee declared his presidential candidacy and visited his hometown, Andong in Gyeongbuk, at the 'Yi Yuksa Literature Museum,' stating, "Unlike other countries' government establishment stages, the Republic of Korea failed to purge pro-Japanese elements, and these pro-Japanese forces collaborated with the US occupying forces to maintain the same ruling system." Lee's remarks reflect the perception that the Republic of Korea was founded under the leadership of pro-Japanese forces and that the US military is an occupying force. Prior to this, Kim Won-woong, Chairman of Gwangbokhoe, also referred to the US military as occupying forces and the Soviet army as liberating forces during a lecture for high school students.
Former Prosecutor General Yoon criticized, "Forces that deny the legitimacy of the Republic of Korea and highlight only fragments of history while ignoring context do not merely parasitize the achievements of the people," adding, "Policies such as housing policies that deny the market and the 'Soju Seong' policy all stem from misguided ideologies."
