US Court Decides to Extradite Yoo Hyuk-gi, Second Son of Yoo Byung-eun, Related to Sewol Ferry Case to Korea
[Asia Economy Reporter Bu Aeri] It has been reported that the U.S. court has determined that Yoo Hyuk-ki, the second son of former Semo Group chairman Yoo Byung-eun, is subject to extradition.
According to major U.S. media on the 3rd, U.S. District Judge Judith McCarthy of the Southern District of New York ruled that Yoo is subject to extradition.
Currently detained in the U.S., Yoo was indicted by the Korean prosecution on charges including embezzlement of 29 billion won of company funds as the actual controlling shareholder of Cheonghaejin Marine, the ferry operator of the Sewol ferry.
Yoo, a U.S. permanent resident, stayed in the U.S. in 2014 without complying with the prosecution's summons following the Sewol ferry disaster.
Accordingly, the prosecution requested a red notice from Interpol and sought extradition from the U.S.
Yoo was arrested last June at his residence in Westchester County, New York.
