[Asia Economy Reporters Lee Gwan-ju and Jeong Dong-hoon] A man in his 40s has been arrested on charges of abandoning his intellectually disabled younger brother in his 30s. The police, suspecting suspicious behavior by the older brother, are focusing their investigation on whether the younger brother was murdered.
According to the police on the 3rd, the Jungbu Police Station in Seoul arrested a man in his 40s, Mr. A, on the previous day on charges of abandoning his disabled younger brother in his 30s.
Mr. A reported to the police that on the 28th of last month, his younger brother Mr. B, who has a level 2 intellectual disability, left home riding a bicycle saying he was going to the movie theater but did not return.
After receiving the report, the police began verifying Mr. B’s whereabouts through analysis of closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage. However, Mr. A’s report was found to be false. The CCTV footage showed Mr. B, who was said to have left the movie theater, together with Mr. A. Mr. A put Mr. B in his car and went near Wangsukcheon in Guri City, Gyeonggi Province, and there was also footage of Mr. A transferring to another vehicle. The bicycle Mr. B supposedly rode out on was found at Euljiro 1(il)-ga Station, far from the movie theater.
Mr. B was found dead in the northern part of Gangdong Bridge over the Han River on the 29th of last month. Upon confirming these suspicious circumstances, the police urgently arrested Mr. A on the same day.
