According to NHK on the 3rd, a landslide caused by heavy rain occurred at 10:30 a.m. at Azusan in Atami City, Shizuoka Prefecture, covering nearby houses.
NHK reported that about 20 people were swept away and their whereabouts are unknown. Shizuoka Prefecture has requested the Self-Defense Forces for rescue and is focusing on gathering information at the site.

Kyodo News also reported that about 20 residents were swept away by the landslide on the same day. In Japan, 400 to 500mm of heavy rain fell over 48 hours, mainly in Shizuoka and Kanagawa Prefectures.
