Dong-Eui Institute of Technology (President Kim Young-do) and Busan-Gyeongnam Mold Industry Cooperative (Chairman Lee Soo-kyun) signed a business agreement on the 1st at the university main building's large conference room to establish the 'Hwajeon Industrial Complex On-site Campus.'
At the signing ceremony, Dong-Eui Institute of Technology's President Kim Young-do, Director of Admissions and Public Relations Lee Hwa-seok, Mechanical Department Head Kwon Il-geun, and Professor Seo Young-ho were present.
Busan-Gyeongnam Mold Industry Cooperative was represented by Chairman Lee Soo-kyun, Executive Director Jang Jong-bae, and Director Woo Jung-hoon.
Both organizations agreed to utilize the Busan-Gyeongnam Mold Technology Center within Hwajeon Industrial Complex, Gangseo-gu, Busan, as an 'on-site campus' to operate industry-commissioned training courses for workers.
The Busan-Gyeongnam Mold Technology Center, which will become Dong-Eui Institute of Technology's 'Hwajeon Campus,' was established in 1992 and has led the development of the mold industry through information and technology exchange in the foundational industries of the Busan and Gyeongnam regions.
The on-site campus is emerging as a new educational model to overcome the challenges of the work-first, study-later education system.
By utilizing idle corporate spaces as educational environments, it reduces the time and financial burdens on working learners who previously had to commute to universities to complete their education.
It also focuses on narrowing the gap between industrial sites and university education. To cultivate customized talent for partner companies, the proportion of industry involvement in curriculum development and education is significantly increased, and excellent instructors with rich field experience are dispatched to incorporate specialized knowledge required by industries into the curriculum.
According to the agreement, a Mechanical Design Department with a recruitment capacity of 20 students will be established starting from the 2022 academic year. The Mechanical Design Department aims to nurture outstanding mold talents who will lead the regional industry through industry-demand-tailored education on new technologies in foundational industries.
The recruitment target is workers employed by companies located within Hwajeon Industrial Complex who have graduated from high school but have not yet obtained an associate degree.
Working learners will follow the regular curriculum at the on-site campus with the same status as regular students and can obtain an associate degree after two years.
President Kim Young-do said, “The on-site campus is expected to be the key to overcoming the limitations of the existing work-study parallel system and opening a new path for nurturing young talents,” adding, “The university and companies will join hands to cultivate mold talents required by the local industrial field.”
