On this day, Mayor Cho Gyu-il of Jinju said, “Attracting the Lee Kun-hee Art Museum is a shortcut to realizing cultural decentralization and cultural democracy,” and added, “Since 30% of domestic art museums are concentrated in the metropolitan area, new cultural facilities must be boldly expanded in local cities like Jinju, which lack cultural benefits.”
He continued, “Jinju is located at the center of Yeongnam and Honam regions, and with the opening of the Western Gyeongnam KTX, the demand area for art museum visits will expand,” and appealed, “We hope for active cooperation from the Jaegyeong Hyangwoohoe, who are actively working in the business community, so that the Lee Kun-hee Art Museum can be attracted to Jinju.”
Mayor Cho emphasized the justification by saying, “The National Jinju Museum, where the art museum will be established, was designed by the world-renowned architect Kim Swoo-geun,” and “If the art museum is built here, visitors will be able to fully feel the breath of the architect.”
In response, Jung Young-soo, Global Advisor of CJ Group, supported the attraction of the Lee Kun-hee Art Museum to Jinju, stating, “We will actively cooperate with Jinju City, which is conducting all-out efforts to realize the precious value of balanced cultural development.”
