Korea Rail Network Authority Launches 'Carbon Neutral Railway Strategy Committee'

View original image[Asia Economy (Daejeon) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] The Korea Rail Network Authority announced on the 30th that it has launched the 'Carbon Neutral Railway Strategy Committee.'
The committee was established as the first step toward actively implementing the government's 2050 carbon neutrality policy and realizing a sustainable public transportation system centered on railways.
The committee chairman is Kim Han-young, the president of the Korea Rail Network Authority. In addition, executives including the head of the Planning Headquarters and the director of the Future Strategy Research Institute, as well as external members such as Professor Jang Soo-eun of Seoul National University Graduate School of Environmental Studies, participate.
The committee consists of a total of 16 members. The members participate in three subcommittees: Future Policy, Green New Deal, and ESG, and are responsible for reviewing and discussing key policies to increase the railway transportation share and practice carbon neutrality.
Through the committee, the Korea Rail Network Authority plans to establish new standards for the future railway industry and lay the groundwork for South Korea to secure competitiveness in the global railway market.

Kim Han-young, president of the Korea Rail Network Authority, said, “We will strategically respond to the rapidly changing transportation paradigm centered on the committee and ensure that railways can lead the government's low-carbon policy direction.”
