June DRAM Fixed Prices Steady... Additional Increase Expected in Second Half
[Asia Economy Reporter Woo Su-yeon] The fixed transaction price of memory semiconductors in June remained flat for the second consecutive month. The market expects DRAM prices, which have entered a pause, to rise again from the second half of the year.
According to market research firm TrendForce on the 30th, the price of PC DRAM (DDR4 8Gb 1Gx8 2133MHz) in June was recorded at an average of $3.8, unchanged from the previous month. The fixed transaction price of DRAM had risen by 5% in January this year, then remained steady before soaring sharply by 26% in April. Since then, it has maintained a flat trend for two months.
TrendForce stated, "In the third quarter, DRAM fixed transaction prices are expected to rise by 3-8% quarter-on-quarter due to low inventory levels among suppliers and increased demand from customers," adding, "Price increases will continue in the fourth quarter, but the rate of increase will be lower than in the third quarter."
Prices for server DRAM rose by about 1-4% compared to the previous month. Although they increased by 15-18% in April, the rise slowed to about 1-2% last month. TrendForce forecasts that server DRAM prices will increase by 5-10% quarter-on-quarter in the third quarter.
Another memory semiconductor, NAND flash, also showed little change in price this month compared to the previous month. The fixed transaction price of NAND flash (128Gb 16Gx8 MLC) has remained at $4.56 for two consecutive months after a significant 8.5% increase in April.
TrendForce predicted, "As suppliers gradually reduce 2D NAND flash production, prices are expected to rise in July when third-quarter contracts begin," and added, "Due to steady demand, prices are expected to continue rising until the end of the year."
