"SME Workforce Training, We Give a Thumbs Up!" Busan Science and Technology University Ranks No.1 Nationwide in SME Contract Department Project
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] Busan Institute of Science and Technology ranked first nationwide in the contract department project that trains personnel needed by small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
Busan Institute of Science and Technology (President Kang Ki-seong) announced on the 30th that it achieved an S grade, ranking first nationwide in the ‘2021 SME Contract Department Project Performance Evaluation.’
The 'SME Contract Department Project,' led by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, is a project aimed at improving the job skills of SME employees, encouraging long-term employment, and establishing a foundation for employment-first and education-later pathways.
The Ministry of SMEs and Startups evaluates universities nationwide participating in the contract department project every year and announces the performance evaluation results.
Busan Institute of Science and Technology received excellent evaluations in curriculum industrial field applicability, differentiation from general departments, appropriateness of department operation, and participating students' satisfaction with the curriculum, earning the highest S grade among 12 specialized colleges nationwide participating in the project.
Busan Institute of Science and Technology has been recognized as the most solid top project group by achieving first place nationwide for three consecutive years since 2015 and obtaining the highest grade this year.
The new student selection types for the SME contract department project are divided into ‘simultaneous employment with re-education,’ where students graduate from high school and simultaneously work at SMEs while pursuing a degree, and ‘re-education type,’ targeting workers who have been employed at SMEs for more than six months.
In the case of ‘simultaneous employment with re-education,’ 100% of tuition fees are supported by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups.
Busan Institute of Science and Technology has signed business agreements with Busan Mechanical Technical High School, Busan Automotive High School, Haeundae Technical High School, Busan Electronics Technical High School, etc., to expand ‘simultaneous employment with re-education’ and secure stable new students, establishing a cooperative system for project operation and performance dissemination.
Busan Institute of Science and Technology has participated in this project since the fall semester of 2013 and established the ‘Convergence Mechanical Department,’ a fusion department based on the machinery and automotive industries, to nurture SME employees equipped with creativity and cutting-edge expertise to respond to socio-economic structural changes due to the Fourth Industrial Revolution, such as smart factories.
