[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Seongbuk-gu (Mayor Lee Seung-ro), Korea University Anam Hospital (Director Park Jong-hoon), and Seongbuk Woori Children’s Hospital (Director Kim Min-sang) have joined hands.
The three institutions gathered at Seongbuk-gu Office on the 25th to sign a business agreement to eradicate child abuse.
At the event, related local organizations including Seoul Seongbuk Police Station, Seoul Jongam Police Station, and Seoul Seongbuk Child Protection Agency attended together, expressing a strong commitment to eradicating child abuse and protecting and promoting the health of abused children.
This agreement allows the dedicated medical institutions to support examination and treatment of abused children and provide medical consultation to child abuse investigation officers and police during the investigation stage of child abuse cases.
Additionally, it includes active reporting of suspected abuse cases to play a role in preventing child abuse.
Prior to the agreement, Seongbuk-gu established a medical cooperation system among related organizations through the Child Abuse Response Information Linkage Council to explore and review treatment methods by police, district office, and hospitals when abused children occur, equipping each hospital with a rapid treatment process currently utilized in the field.
Lee Seung-ro, Mayor of Seongbuk-gu, stated, “Seongbuk-gu is the first UNICEF-certified child-friendly city in Korea and regards the issue of child abuse more seriously than any other city. High interest and participation in response efforts are important.” He added, “As part of this, we will actively promote medical cooperation with local community organizations and strive to protect and improve the health of abused children.”
