[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] Jang In-hwa, chairman of the Busan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, received an honorary doctorate in business administration from Pukyong National University.
Chairman Jang In-hwa has managed a shipbuilding equipment company in the region for over 30 years, significantly growing the business by successfully domesticating shipbuilding structural steel products.
Recently, he acquired the local shipbuilding company Daeseon Shipbuilding Co., Ltd., becoming a leading Busan entrepreneur who has taken the lead in creating local jobs and promoting win-win labor-management relations.
He currently serves as the chairman of the Busan Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Busan Sports Council. Recently, he was entrusted with the important role of head of the South Korean delegation at the Tokyo Olympics, the first among local officials, and in recognition of his active contributions to economic and regional development, he received an honorary doctorate in business administration from the national Pukyong National University.
At the degree conferral ceremony, Pukyong National University President Jang Young-soo said in his remarks, “Chairman Jang In-hwa has practiced innovative management and led the development of national industry at the heart of South Korea’s industrial sector, so it is an honor to confer this honorary doctorate from Pukyong National University.”
Chairman Jang In-hwa said, “I am very honored to become a new member of the Pukyong community as of today,” adding, “As regional universities are facing many difficulties due to the recent decline in the school-age population, if businesspeople take more responsibility to create jobs for Busan’s youth and support young people interested in startups through active industry-academia cooperation, we can overcome the current job market disorder.”

About 50 businesspeople attended the degree conferral ceremony, including Kang Byung-joong, chairman of KNN, and Shin Jeong-taek, chairman of Sewoon Steel, and many heads of sports organizations from the Busan Sports Council also attended in large numbers.
