Gangseo-gu Achieves Auction Success with Gyeomjae Jeongseon’s 'Dongjakjindo'... Participation in Seoul Auction Increases Gyeomjae Jeongseon Museum Collection to 24 Works... National Petition Campaign Launched to Host 'Inwangjesaekdo' at Gyeomjae Jeongseon Museum
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Gyeomjae Jeong Seon's 'Dongjakjindo (銅雀津圖)' has landed in Gangseo-gu, Seoul.
Gangseo-gu, Seoul (Mayor Noh Hyun-song) announced that it successfully won the bid for 'Dongjakjindo,' one of Gyeomjae's major works, at the 161st Seoul Auction held on the 22nd.
This achievement was accomplished through focused efforts on artifact acquisition led by an evaluation team composed of top experts in the field.
'Dongjakjindo' is a masterpiece that reveals Gyeomjae Jeong Seon's soft and delicate brushwork, depicting the view of Dongjak Naru, where the current Dongjak Bridge stands, as seen from the Hanyang side.
This work, prominently featured in major Gyeomjae-related publications such as 'The Beauty of Korea: Gyeomjae Jeong Seon Edition' and 'Gyeomjae's Hanyang Jingyeong,' is highly valued as an important historical resource because it allows inference of the Dongjak ferry terminal of the Joseon Dynasty and the scenery of the Han River at that time.
The district plans to exhibit 'Dongjakjindo' to the public starting mid-August after preparation for the exhibition. Since this work, long held by a private collector, will be publicly displayed for the first time, significant interest is expected.
With the acquisition of 'Dongjakjindo,' the total number of Gyeomjae Jeong Seon works held by the Gyeomjae Jeong Seon Art Museum in the district has increased to 24. Marking its 12th anniversary this year, the museum holds early representative works of Jeong Seon such as 'Cheonghaseongeupdo' and previously unpublished pieces like 'Joeodo' and 'Pigeumjeongdo.'
Mayor Noh Hyun-song said, “Gangseo-gu, the birthplace and completion site of Gyeomjae's true-view landscape painting, has made various efforts to honor the achievements and artistic spirit of Gyeomjae based on its connection with him. We will continue to strengthen the foundation so that the Gyeomjae Jeong Seon Art Museum can establish itself as a symbolic space of Korean painting.”
The district is promoting a public petition campaign at the Blue House to attract the 'Inwangjesaekdo' donated by the late Samsung Group Chairman Lee Kun-hee to the Gyeomjae Jeong Seon Art Museum.
The petition will continue until July 4.
