Gyeongnam Province Launches Special Crackdown on Illegal Activities in Forests During Summer Vacation Season
July 26 to August 13 Designated as Joint Crackdown Period
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Saeyan] Gyeongsangnam-do is conducting a special crackdown on illegal activities in forests with city and county governments until August 13, in preparation for the summer vacation season.
The focus will be on camping and cooking activities in forests, including 11 forest genetic resource protection areas within the province, illegal dumping of garbage, and illegal digging or harvesting of forest products such as natural stones, landscaping trees, and mosses.
In particular, those caught committing illegal acts will be subject to penalties according to relevant laws: a fine of up to 1 million KRW for dumping waste or garbage in forests, and imprisonment of up to 5 years or a fine of up to 50 million KRW for illegal damage to forests or illegal digging or harvesting of forest products.

An official from the Provincial Forest Policy Division stated, "We will do our best to ensure that forests become a pleasant and safe place for rest through guidance and crackdowns on illegal activities in forests," and added, "We ask that any illegal activities discovered in forests be reported to the forest department of the respective city or county."
