View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jun-yi] The support rate for the People Power Party has shown a continuous upward trend, closing in on the support rate for the Democratic Party of Korea. The election of party leader Lee Jun-seok has heightened public interest, and the activities of opposition candidates such as former Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-yeol and Board of Audit and Inspection Chairman Choi Jae-hyung are interpreted as factors contributing to the rise in the party's support rate.
According to a public opinion survey conducted by Asia Economy through Win-G Korea Consulting from the 26th to 27th, targeting 1,009 voters aged 18 and over nationwide (100% mobile phone virtual numbers, automated response), when asked about their "supported party," 32.6% responded that they support the Democratic Party, while 32.4% said they support the People Power Party. The gap between the two parties is 0.2 percentage points, indicating no significant difference. In the previous survey (conducted on the 12th to 13th), the gap was 1.8 percentage points.
The Democratic Party's support rate decreased by 0.2 percentage points compared to the previous survey, while the People Power Party's support rate increased by 1.4 percentage points. Notably, the People Power Party's support rate has risen in three consecutive surveys since the one conducted on May 15-16, immediately after the April 7 by-elections.
The Democratic Party showed strength among women (34.7%), while the People Power Party was stronger among men (36.4%). Differences were also observed across age groups. The Democratic Party led in the 30s (36.2%), 40s (47.3%), and 50s (33.6%), whereas the People Power Party was ahead in the 20s (38.2%), 60s (41.0%), and 70 and older (45.7%).
Regionally, the Democratic Party was dominant in Honam (49.6%), Chungcheong (39.4%), and Gangwon-Jeju (57.2%), while the People Power Party led in Seoul (37.9%), TK (Daegu-Gyeongbuk) with 48.5%, and PK (Busan-Ulsan-Gyeongnam) with 42.2%. Support rates for parties other than the two major parties were as follows: Open Democratic Party 6.3%, People Party 5.5%, Justice Party 4.4%. The proportion of undecided voters was 15.8%.

This survey was conducted by Asia Economy through Win-G Korea Consulting from the 26th to 27th, targeting voters aged 18 and over nationwide, with 1,009 respondents and an overall response rate of 8.5%. The survey method was wireless ARS using 100% mobile phone virtual numbers, and the sample was extracted using weighted values by gender, age, and region based on the resident registration population as of the end of January 2021 from the Ministry of the Interior and Safety (cell weighting). The sampling error is ±3.1 percentage points at a 95% confidence level.
