"Doctor Threw Surgical Knife"... Controversy Over Professor's Verbal Abuse and Power Harassment Toward Nurses
[Asia Economy Reporter Heo Midam] Controversy has arisen over allegations that a doctor at Busan National University Hospital not only verbally abused nurses multiple times but also threw a surgical knife.
According to the Busan National University Hospital Labor Union on the 23rd, Professor A from Busan National University College of Medicine threw a surgical knife in the hospital's central operating room on the 3rd of last month when nurses made mistakes. There are five nurses who claim to be victims. They released photographic evidence showing the surgical knife flying like a throwing star and sticking into the floor.
Additionally, the victim nurses testified that Professor A threw surgical knives three times until the 20th of last month. There was also a nurse who said they heard Professor A make personally insulting remarks such as "I wonder if you have human intelligence."
The victim nurses filed a complaint against Professor A at the Busan Western Police Station on the same day. The labor union separately requested the hospital to impose severe disciplinary action on Professor A, but they claimed that there had been no official action from the hospital for over a month since the incident occurred.

Following the controversy, Professor A is reported to have posted an apology letter in the operating room. It is also reported that through the hospital's public relations office, he expressed willingness to accept the results if the hospital's investigation is conducted.

A hospital official said, "When a nurse handed over the wrong scalpel during surgery, Professor A pushed it away, causing the scalpel to fall and stick into the floor. We understand that Professor A's position is that there was no reason to throw it at a person."
