The Gyeonggi Province and the Gyeonggi Fire and Disaster Headquarters announced that the fire at the Deokpyeong Coupang Logistics Center, which occurred at 5:36 a.m. on the 17th, was completely extinguished at 4:12 p.m. on the 22nd. The Gyeonggi Fire Headquarters is currently conducting a detailed investigation, estimating that the fire was caused by electrical factors.
The fire caused property damage exceeding 400 billion won, and Chief Kim Dong-sik of the Gwangju Fire Station Rescue Team died in the line of duty.
On the day of the accident, around 11:20 a.m., Chief Kim entered the basement level 2 of the Deokpyeong logistics warehouse with four team members to search for survivors but was trapped when the parcels and other items stored inside collapsed. Chief Kim was found deceased around noon on the third day of the fire, the 19th, which saddened the public.
