On the 21st, LG Uplus and the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs held a 'Smart Pad Donation Ceremony for the Healthy Old Age of National Veterans' at the Seoul Regional Veterans Office. The ceremony was attended by Hwang Hyun-sik, CEO of LG Uplus, Vice President Park Hyung-il, Hwang Ki-chul, Minister of the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs, and Kang Yoon-jin, Director of the Welfare Promotion Bureau.
The smart pads will be delivered to veterans at high risk of developing cognitive impairment. Veterans can strengthen their cognitive abilities through learning and play using the smart pads together with veterans’ caregivers who visit 1 to 3 times a week. Until now, learning was conducted on smartphones with small screens, causing inconvenience, but going forward, they will be able to use smart pads with larger screens.
Veterans’ caregivers prevent cognitive decline in veterans through a total of 20 courses. They can detect early signs of cognitive impairment and connect veterans to support services. Through the smart pads, veterans can engage in ▲'Cognitive Learning' which comprehensively enhances memory, concentration, and numerical skills ▲'Cognitive Exercise' to improve physical and mental health ▲'Cognitive Play' which boosts quickness and focus through games ▲'Cognitive Art' involving drawing to prevent dementia.
Hwang Ki-chul, Minister of the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs, said, "LG Uplus’s support symbolizes that our society does not forget the national veterans who protected the country during times of national crisis," adding, "We are grateful for their generous support in providing digital services at a time when interest in health has increased due to COVID-19 and aging."
Hwang Hyun-sik, CEO of LG Uplus, stated, "Providing services that ensure a comfortable old age for veterans is a natural support for those who have devoted themselves to the country, and it is an honor for Uplus to be part of this," adding, "We will support the provision of high-quality services to veterans."
