View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Dae-yeol] Kolon Industries announced on the 21st that it has developed advanced petroleum resin technology with improved adhesion for the first time in the world and established a mass production system with a capacity of 15,000 tons.
Petroleum resin refers to synthetic resins mixed into adhesives, inks, paints, and rubber to bond and fix materials together or to allow repeated sticking and peeling. The products independently developed by the company this time include reactive petroleum resin (HRR), high-purity aromatic petroleum resin (PMR), liquid petroleum resin, and high-performance tire resin.
HRR is unique in the world among similar product groups for its property of increasing adhesive performance by reacting with moisture in the air. It is expected to be used in various fields such as automobiles and construction by reducing harmful substances to the human body and enhancing heat resistance and durability. PMR is a product specialized for tire manufacturing, characterized by improving fuel efficiency while increasing grip. Liquid petroleum resin is the second product developed by Kolon worldwide and the first domestically, offering the advantage of easier handling compared to existing solid types.

This advanced petroleum resin production facility has been established at the company’s Yeosu plant. The annual petroleum resin production capacity has increased to 200,000 tons, ranking second in the world. The company plans to gradually increase the production volume of advanced petroleum resin to 20,000 tons. Jang Hee-gu, president of Kolon Industries, said, "This expansion is an opportunity to provide new value to customers that others cannot," adding, "With an innovative portfolio, it will be a milestone to solidify the future sustainable growth potential of the petroleum resin business."
