Singapore COVID-19 First Dose Vaccination Rate Surpasses 50%
[Asia Economy Reporter Yu Je-hoon] More than half of Singapore's population has received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, The Straits Times reported on the 19th (local time).
According to the report, Ong Ye-kung, Singapore's Minister of Health, stated on his social media that "just over 50% of the total population has received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, and about 36% have received two doses."
Minister Ong said, "At an inter-agency joint meeting yesterday, we shared experts' consensus that COVID-19 will become 'endemic.' This means that COVID-19 will continue to mutate and circulate in the community like influenza, and we must adapt and live with it."
He added, "Fortunately, we have built up our response capabilities over the past year, and now we are conducting testing, epidemiological investigations, and quarantine measures swiftly, with a significant portion of the population vaccinated," emphasizing, "We will be able to maintain business and daily life going forward."
