[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Geochang-gun, Gyeongnam announced on the 16th that it is operating the rural tourism program ‘Drive In Geochang’ to revitalize rural tourism, which has been stagnant due to the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19).
The ‘Drive In Geochang’ program is a project that supports travel expenses for visitors coming from other regions to Geochang-gun, providing up to 50% support within a capped amount for rural experience fees, accommodation fees at rural experience and recreation villages or rural homestays, and meal expenses.
Tourists who wish to visit Geochang can receive support of up to 40,000 KRW per person for a 1-night 2-day trip, and up to 70,000 KRW per person for a 2-night 3-day trip by visiting major tourist sites, staying at rural experience and recreation villages or rural homestays, and submitting travel photos and receipts.
Currently, according to the ‘Gyeongsangnam-do Social Distancing Level 1’ quarantine guidelines, applications and registrations are possible for up to 8 people, and applications can be made through the website.

Last year, the ‘Drive In Geochang’ 1-night 2-day program was operated, attracting a total of 2,923 tourists and generating approximately 210 million KRW in tourism revenue. This year, expenses will be supported for about 4,000 tourists, and a 2-night 3-day program will be added to expand the support scope.
