Healthy Aging in Your Hometown... National Health Insurance Service Busan Gyeongnam Headquarters Launches Elderly Care Project
Collaboration Project with Gyeongnam Social Service Institute, Promoting 'Our Village, Caring Together'
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] “We will make sure you can live long and well in the place you reside.”
An active initiative is being launched to continuously care for the elderly’s emotional well-being and health, preventing premature admission to ‘elderly care facilities’ due to neglect of health management.
The National Health Insurance Service Busan-Gyeongnam Regional Headquarters (Director Jang Su-mok) is conducting the ‘Our Village, Caring Together’ project targeting 94 elderly residents in Gimhae, Gyeongnam, until the end of this year.
‘Our Village, Caring Together’ is a program that supports the emotional, nutritional, physical exercise, and cognitive health of elderly people in the community so they can enjoy a healthy old age in their familiar surroundings.
The organization’s hope is that through these efforts, the elderly can maintain a stable life at home. It also helps prevent unnecessary hospitalization or institutionalization.
The project is jointly promoted by the National Health Insurance Service and the Gyeongnam Social Service Institute (Director Lee Seong-gi).
The Gyeongnam Social Service Institute identifies care recipients through its directly managed facility, the Gyeongsangnam-do Community Care Center, while the National Health Insurance Service implements detailed project activities, presenting a model for exemplary community collaboration.
Considering the situation of local elderly who mainly spend time at home due to the closure of senior centers and village halls caused by COVID-19, the ‘Integrated Care with you’ supporters, composed of local university (graduate) students and residents, visit the homes of the elderly directly.
They provide customized services across various areas and establish a continuous and stable care environment where neighbors look after neighbors.
