Biden Expresses Support for NATO and EU... Macron Welcomes US Cooperation
[Asia Economy Reporter Cho Hyun-ui] U.S. President Joe Biden and French President Emmanuel Macron met face-to-face for the first time on the 12th (local time) at the Group of Seven (G7) summit.
Before entering a bilateral meeting with President Biden, President Macron said, according to APTN, "It is a good thing that the U.S. President, a member of the group, is willing to cooperate."
When asked, "Has America returned?" President Biden looked at President Macron and gestured for him to answer instead. President Macron replied, "Definitely yes," adding, "President Biden is showing that leadership is partnership."
President Macron emphasized, "What the world needs in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic and the climate change crisis is cooperation."
President Biden said, "America has returned," and added, "Everything is going well, and we are on the same page."
He also said, "The European Union (EU) is an incredibly strong and vibrant collective," and "I support the EU, which forms the foundation of the Western European economy and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO)."
