Dong-Eui Institute of Technology (President Kim Young-do) announced on the 10th that students from the Department of Hotel Culinary Nutrition recently won a large number of gold and silver medals at the ‘2021 Korea Challenge Cup International Cooking Competition’.
Hosted by the Master Chef Korea Association and the KHCCIC Organizing Committee, the competition was held over two days from the 29th to 30th of last month at the Intercity Hotel in Daejeon.
The event was divided into nine categories including exhibition, live cooking, baking and pastry, desserts, and carving competitions.
Students from Dong-Eui Institute of Technology’s Department of Hotel Culinary Nutrition participated in the university division individual exhibition competition, winning 15 gold medals and 8 silver medals.
Students Kim Jun-beom, Jung Jin-hyuk, Jung Min-jae, Lee Cheol-min, Park Sung-hyun, Jung Young-sik, Kim Min-ji, Lee Hee-sung, Park Jong-woon, Yeom Ah-jung, Kim Dae-woong, Choi Ho-hyun, Jung Min-seok, Sung Eun-jo, and Kim Yeon-kyung each scored over 90 points and earned ‘Gold’ awards.
Kim Jin-woo, Seo Bo-geun, Jung Seung-ho, Kim Min-seon, Kwak Jae-young, Kim Min-jun, Na Seon-yong, and Lee Min-joo received silver medals.
Student Kim Jun-beom received the highest individual award, the Grand Prix, with a score of 98 points.
The university and high school collaborated to prepare for this competition. Dong-Eui Institute of Technology and Sejeong High School have been actively operating exchange programs including shared use of facilities since signing a 2+2 linked curriculum agreement in March.
Both schools prepared by sharing ideas necessary for creating works and purchasing ingredients, as well as jointly using university cooking practice rooms and cooking equipment.
Professor Kim Ho-kyung of Dong-Eui Institute of Technology led training for six weeks, traveling between the university and the high school.
Seven students including Hong Seung-min, a second-year student in the Food Service Cooking Department at Sejeong High School, won 4 gold medals and 3 silver medals in the high school division individual exhibition competition.
Professor Kim Ho-kyung said, “Thanks to the hard cooperation of all students from our university and Sejeong High School for over a month, we achieved great results. We will continue to expand exchange opportunities with high schools.”

The 2+2 linked education program is a curriculum that connects two years of specialized high school courses with two years of junior college courses to train skilled technicians required by local industries.
