View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Choyoung] A month after a Malian woman set a world record by giving birth to nonuplets at the end of last month, a woman in her 30s from South Africa gave birth to decuplets.
On the 8th (local time), local media including OIL reported that Tamara Sitole (37), who lives in Gauteng Province, South Africa, gave birth to ten babies at a hospital in the capital city Pretoria.
Already parents to six-year-old twins, the Sitole couple now have ten more children?seven boys and three girls?bringing their total number of children to twelve. In an interview with local media, the couple stated, "We have never undergone infertility treatment even once, and this time as well, we conceived naturally and had ten babies."
Sitole thought she was pregnant with eight babies based on ultrasound examinations, but during the delivery, two more babies were discovered.
She said, "It was difficult all along, but I prayed that all the babies would be born healthy. I worried whether the babies would stay well in the womb and survive."
Sitole's husband also expressed his joy, saying, "I am so overwhelmed. I am so happy that I am at a loss for words," and called it "a blessing from God."
