Gimhae City Designates Jinyeong and Bonsan Semi-Industrial Areas as Odor Control Zones
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Sang-hyun] Gimhae City in Gyeongnam announced on the 9th that it will promote the designation of Jinyeong and Bonsan-ri semi-industrial areas as odor management zones.
The city plans to finalize and announce the designation around August after collecting opinions until the 22nd, following the announcement of the designation plan (draft) on the 7th.
The Jinyeong and Bonsan-ri semi-industrial areas cover about 1 million square meters and are densely populated with odor-causing industries such as chemical product manufacturing and waste, leading to continuous odor complaints from residents in nearby residential areas.
To identify the causes of odor generation, the city is promoting the designation based on the results of an odor status survey conducted last year by the Korea Environment Corporation, which indicated the need for designation as a management area.
Once the designation is finalized, businesses installing odor-emitting facilities within the Jinyeong-ri and Bonsan-ri semi-industrial areas must report the installation of such facilities within six months from the date of designation and announcement, and install prevention facilities within one year.
In addition, odor-emitting businesses within the odor management zones will be subject to stricter management standards, including the application of stringent emission standards for complex odors, according to the “Ordinance on Strict Emission Standards for Odors and Support for Odor Prevention Facilities in Gimhae City,” which came into effect on May 21 of this year.
